Name: Mark Warmby

Profile: One of our athletes who is beginning to show real promise is Mark Warmby. Having taken gold at the 2006 UKA 4km championships, Mark went on to finish 53rd at the world cross country championships over the same distance. He was one of Britain's leading 5000m runners last year, having previously dabbled in the steeplechase (perhaps attracted to the water jump from his times as a lifeguard!) He is coached by Gary Staines and his commitment is evident from his decision to move from Huddersfield into the UKA endurance house in Twickenham with athletes such as Mo Farah. This commitment is coupled with qualifications in sports and recreation, all of which make him a valuable member of the team. Mark has bounced back to form after surgery to salvage 2008 with a string track season.
